CAPRON—A Washington, D.C., man sustained non-life threatening injuries in a Thursday crash after he fell asleep behind the wheel, Virginia State Police said.

Charles John Dunston, who was thrown from the car, was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital after he lost control of the 2009 Toyota Camry at 9:40 a.m. on Route 58, Capron.

“He ran off the right side of the road, struck a mail box, then overcorrected and went off the left side of the road,” Trooper S.W. Johnson said. “Seat belts were not used.”

Traffic was stopped in both directions to allow for the helicopter to land on the roadway.

Dunston was charged with reckless driving, Johnson said.
