Grant six-time winner for Franklin track team

WINDSOR—Franklin High senior Justin Grant was a six-time winner during a Tri-Rivers District track meet with Surry and Windsor on Thursday.

Grant won the 100- and 200-meter dashes, and long, triple and high jumps. He also ran lead on the winning 4-by-100-meter relay team along with Reshard Sumblin, Shaquan Cook and Josh Walker.

The only other first-place finisher was Lady Bronco Aerial Darden, although Marcus Stephens cleared the high jump at the same level as Grant, but did not place because he’s in eighth grade.

Windsor won the girls’ and boys’ meets. The coach did not provide results. The Franklin boys took second and the Lady Broncos finished in third.

Second-place finishers for the Broncos were Sumblin in the long and triple jumps, Walker in the 100-meter dash, Kiara Banks in the shot put and 300-meter hurdles, Tiana Agee in the long jump and 4 by 100-meter relay team also made up of Ranesha Blow, Janesha Hurdle and Darden.

Third-place finishers for Franklin were Javonte’ Blacknall in the long jump, Blow in the long jump, Lawrence Parham in the triple jump, Clinton Smith in the 300-meter hurdles, Sumblin in the 200-meter dash and Travis Brown in the high jump.

Fourth-place finishers for the Broncos were the boys’ 4 by 100-meter relay team of Blacknall, Stephens and eighth-graders Keonte Flythe and Alson Cromwell, Banks in discus, Parham in long jump, Blacknall in triple jump, Cook in 400-meter dash and Darden in the 200-meter dash

Fifth-place finishers for Franklin were Ciara Banks in the shot put and discus throw, Brown in the long jump and Smith in the 400-meter dash.
