FRANKLIN—The Franklin girls’ tennis team avenged an early season loss to Northampton by defeating the Lady Yellow Jackets on Friday. With the Lady Broncos missing their regular No. 2 and No. 3 seeds, everyone stepped up their game, splitting the singles matches 3-3 and then winning two of the three doubles matches to win 5-4.

In singles play, the winners for Franklin were No. 3 Kaitlyn Trotter, No. 5 Rebecca Gray and No. 6 JaShonda Elliott. Although she lost, Jeanetta Sessoms played a tough match against Northampton’s No. 2 seed.

In doubles play, Franklin lost the No. 1 doubles but won the No. 3 doubles with Tyreckka Hawks and Rebecca Gray. The match turned on Franklin’s No. 2 tandem of Kiera Cofield and Maura Zurfluh who stubbornly fought their opponents for a 9-7 win and the deciding match point for Franklin’s victory.

In exhibition singles, JaShonda Elliott defeated Northampton’s Laticia Palacios 8-1.
