David R. Kitchen, Jr.

Franklin – David Radcliffe Kitchen, Jr., “Pops”, 68, passed away April 13, 2011. He was born in Suffolk, the son of the late David R. and Doris Porter Kitchen, and was predeceased by a son, David R. Kitchen, III and his father-in-law, Ryland L. Hasty. David was retired from farming and construction and was a member of Hunterdale Christian Church.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife and best friend, Rebecca Hasty Kitchen; his daughter whom he loved with all his heart, Melissa K. Gayle and husband, Brian; grandsons, Bradley David Gayle and Andrew Brian Gayle; sister, Susan L. Kitchen; adopted sister, Joyce Teele; brother-in-law, Brad Hasty and wife, Judy; mother-in-law, Mary J. Hasty; godson, Robbie Madron and many good friends and cousins.
David enjoyed being with friends and family, attending Special Olympics events, hanging out at “Shorty’s” and Raymond Davis Farms, Nascar, a good George Dickel and, having become a accomplished cook, cooking for his wife, family and friends. He also enjoyed taking care of his “livestock”, Sis, Tom, Snoopy and Smoke.
The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Friday in Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Wright and Rev. Beth Yates officiating. Interment will be private. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service and requests memorials be made in David’s name to Powhatan Special Olympics Area 6, c/o/ Pat Fowler, 2412 Georges Road, Powhatan, VA 23139. www.wrightfuneralhome.org.
