RICHMOND—Four men seriously burned in a Thursday explosion at a logging site remained in critical condition at VCU Medical Center in Richmond, a hospital spokeswoman said Monday.
Among the injured were Jeremy Everett of Sedley, Lon Bickham, Trent Kimbrell and Gary Pierce.
The men work for Pinecrest Timber in Waverly, according to Emporia Fire Chief Chris Rawlings, whose department responded to the 5:12 p.m. incident a few miles off Hell’s Island Road near the North Carolina border.
Greensville County Sheriff’s Office investigated the incident, according to a dispatcher. Sheriff J.R. Edwards Jr. did not return repeated phone calls to The Tidewater News on Friday or Monday.
Rawlings understands the injured men were doing maintenance on equipment when the explosion occurred.
A woman who answered the phone at Pinecrest Timber said she had no comment.
