Joseph E. Hardy

FRANKLIN—Mr. Joseph E. Hardy of Carrsville Highway, Franklin, Va., departed this life April 5, 2011, while a patient in Southampton Memorial Hospital.

The Southampton County native was born on Feb. 17, 1923, to John Walter and Virgie Claud Hardy.

He was employed as a painter for many years and worked with his brother, Leroy.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents and five siblings, Leroy Hardy Sr., Gertrude Porter, Verlee Baker, Elizabeth Thornton and John M. Hardy. Sr.

He is survived by his nieces Ruby Vann, Gloria F. Hardy and Melvina Snead, both of Portsmouth, Va., and Lisa Thornton Manuel and Tina McGibboney, both of Brooklyn, N.Y.; one nephew, Leroy Hardy Jr. of Sedley, Va., nineteen great nieces and nephews; and many other relatives.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 9, 2011, in Southview Cemetery.
