Mae Belle E. Burgess

COURTLAND—Mae Belle Edwards Burgess, 85, widow of Lloyd Macon “Happy” Burgess, passed away April 2, 2011, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.

She was born in Southampton County, a daughter of the late Floyd and Lillie Belle Grizzard Edwards, and was predeceased by two sisters, Adelia Crutchlow and Bessie Allen; five brothers, Andrew, Raymond, Bob, Dudley, and Charles Edwards; and a great-grandchild, Lewis D. Lloyd III.

Mrs. Burgess was a member of Vincent’s Grove United Methodist Church where she was a former Sunday School teacher and an active choir member.

She was a graduate of Drewryville High School.

She was a member of the Hinges and Twinges Class at the James L. Camp Jr. YMCA.

Left to cherish her memory are two sons, Douglas “Scooter” M. Burgess (Janice) of Powhatan and Randy E. Burgess (Candy) of Courtland; four grandchildren, Angela Marie Post (Jacob), Adam Macon Burgess, Wendy Mae Ferguson and Frederick L. Randall III (Kelley); five great-grandchildren, Ryder Post, Brittany and Robert Lloyd and Ethan and Molly Randall; one great-great-grandchild, Emily Meade; two sisters, Margaret Cifers and Dorothy Lassiter (R. T.); one brother, Horace Edwards (Jessie); and a host of nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at Vincent’s Grove United Methodist Church with the Rev. Steven Vornov officiating.
