JERSEY CITY, N.J.—Ms. Gracie V. Smith of Union Street, Jersey City, N.J, passed on March 28, 2011.

The Franklin, Va., native was born May 21, 1946, to parents who preceded her in death, Ruth Britt Washington and William M. Washington Sr. Gracie was also preceded in death by one brother, William “Mack” Washington.

She is survived by four sons, Anthony T. Smith (Marcia) and Tommie D. Smith, both of Jersey City, N.J, Terrance J. Smith of Pennsylvania and Tracy L. Smith of Franklin, Va.; sisters Mildred McDonald of College Park, Ga., and Cecilia Everett (Curtis) of Franklin, Va.; brothers Tony Washington of Portsmouth, Va., Benjamin Keith Britt of Courtland, Va., David Cornell Britt of Richmond, Va., John Leon Washington (Jackie) of Suffolk, Va., Rudolph Washington (Lenora) and Gregory Washington, both of Amityville, N.Y., Jeffrey Washington of Pennsylvania, Michael Washington (Cynthia) of Jonesboro, Ga., and Neil Washington of Virginia Beach, Va.; 13 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and nieces, nephews, cousins and many other relatives.

A home-going service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, April 5, 2011, at First Baptist Church, 318 Hall St., Franklin, Va., with the pastor, Reverend D.S. Riddick, Jr., officiating.

The interment is in Southview Cemetery.

On the day of service, her remains will rest in church for viewing by 11 a.m.

A traditional service with dignity will be conducted by William M. Johnson and Sons Funeral Home, 224 S. Main St., Franklin, Va.
