The driver of a sport utility vehicle crashed into this Drewryville convenience store on Friday night.

DREWRYVILLE—The driver of a sport utility vehicle was flown to Norfolk General Hospital after he drove into a Drewryville convenience store at 11:05 p.m. Friday.

Virginia State Police investigated the crash at Drewryville Fas-Shop on Southampton Parkway, said Sgt. Michelle Anaya. She had no additional information, including the name of the driver because the trooper had not filed a report.

Drewryville Volunteer Fire Department responded to the crash.

“A Dodge Durango struck the right-hand corner of the building and caused a fire,” said fire chief Buck Whitby. “Most of the damage was caused by the collision. There was minor damage caused by the fire.”

The collision resulted in damage to at least four of the store’s nine coolers and a brick wall on the side of the building, said owner Andy Patel. The store was open Monday.

Capron Volunteer Fire and Rescue transported the driver, who was the vehicle’s only occupant, to the hospital.
