FRANKLIN—Deacon Raiford H. Williams of Beaman Street, Franklin, Va., departed this life March 18, 2011, while a patient in Southampton Memorial Hospital.

The Franklin, Va., native was born February 23, 1938.

He was employed for over 30 years with International Paper Corporation.

Deacon Williams was a member of Diamond Grove Baptist Church, where he served on the Deacon Board, a member of the Senior Choir, and the Male Chorus. He was also the President of the Senior Usher Board and President of the Men of Faith.

He is survived by his wife, Marjorie J. Williams of Franklin, Va.; his children, Bettie W. Nichols (Tony) of Franklin, Va., Lawrence L. Beale, Jr. (Kim) of Virginia Beach, Va., John W. Beale (Marian) of Smithfield, Va., and Shelia Burke of Carrsville, Va.; one sister, Sarah Boone of Salisbury, Md.; 12 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and other extended family and many caring friends.

A celebration of life will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, March 22, 2011, at East End Church of God, 410 East St., Franklin, Va., where Bishop S.D. Willis is pastor. Deacon Williams’ pastor, Reverend Darnell Whitfield, will deliver the message of comfort.

The interment will be in Diamond Grove Church Cemetery. On the day of service, his remains will rest in church for viewing by 10:30 a.m. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday from 6 to 7 p.m.

A traditional service with dignity will be conducted by William M. Johnson and Sons Funeral Home, 224 S. Main St., Franklin, Va.
