FRANKLIN—James Bernard Griffith, 82, passed away March 18, 2011, at Norfolk General Hospital.
He was born in Mapleton, N.C., a son of the late Emil Thomas and Rosa Whitley Griffith and was predeceased by his brother, Henry T. Griffith.
An Army veteran of the Korean War, James was retired from Union Camp Corporation as a turbine operator in the power plant after 39 years service.
He was a member of Hunterdale Christian Church.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 61 years, Martha Taylor Griffith; his son, Alvin James Griffith and wife, Diane, of Franklin; three grandchildren, Michael Griffith and wife, Mary, David Griffith, and Kristy Cavanaugh and husband, David; a special nephew, Dennis Griffith and wife, Pam, of Franklin; two special nieces, Luresa C. Tyler and husband, Bobby, of Franklin and Teresa C. Whitley and husband, Carl, of Lasker, N.C.; and two great-grandchildren, Alexis E. Griffith and Carter James Cavanaugh.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 20, 2011, at Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Randy Wright officiating. Interment, with military honors, will follow in Southampton Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home and suggest memorials be made to Hunterdale Christian Church, 741 Hunterdale Road, Franklin, Va., 23851, or American Cancer Society, c/o Ms. Kathy Worrell, 717 Fairview Drive, Franklin, Va., 23851.
