NEWSOMS—Sam “Uncle Boone” Smith Jr., 73, died March 12, 2011. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. today, March 18, at Bright Lilly Disciples Church. Burial will be in Mt. Tabor Baptist Church cemetery.

Mr. Smith was a native of Southampton County.

Survivors include daughter Gloria Jean Smith, brothers Robert and Alexander Smith, and sisters Dorothy Flythe, Ruby Worrell, Olivia and Annie Smith and Ida Spruell.
