PETERSBURG—Southampton Academy girls’ tennis team lost 7-2 to Appomatox Regional Governor’s School on Thursday.

No. 1 seeded Barclay Gatten who won her singles match 8-2 and No. 1 doubles Gatten/Jessica Porter won 8-4.

The Lady Raiders need to work on ball placement for upcoming matches, said Coach Joann Gatten.

In other action, the Lady Raiders won all nine matches against Windsor on Monday.

Barclay Gatten defeated Laura Patrick 8-0, Jessica Porter defeated Taylor Ferguson 8-1, Ginny Taylor defeated Jessica Bryant 8-2, Courtney Beltrami defeated Jessica Blythe 8-3, Meagan Dail defeated Lakendra Bottom 8-1 and Hayden Edenfield defeated Kirsten Mcclenny 8-0.

In doubles, the No. 1 seeded Gatten/Porter defeated Patrick/Ferguson, No. 2 Taylor/Beltrami defeated Bryant/Blythe and No. 3 Drewry/Dail defeated Batten/McClenny.

They play Steward School on Monday, March 21, at Cypress Cove Country Club and Fuqua School in Farmville, Va., on

Wednesday, March 23.

The team is also coached by Tammy Porter.
