Lee wins singles match in Franklin loss

FRANKLIN—The Franklin High School girls’ tennis team opened its 2011 season on Thursday with a 7-2 loss to Greensville in a non-district match-up.
Greensville took 5 of 6 single matches and 2 of 3 doubles matches to down the Lady Broncos.
Franklin wins came at No. 3 singles with freshman Asya Lee defeating her opponent and at No. 3 doubles with Kierra Cofield and Maura Zurfluh outlasting the Greensville duo for an 8-6 win.
In exhibition, the Franklin tandem of Rebecca Gray and Cheyenne Banks defeated Greensville’s Kaycha Williams and Tierra Lucas.
The Lady Broncos are led by returning senior Samantha Bruck at No. 1 singles, senior Sharnice Williams at No. 2 singles and Lee No. 3, Jeanetta Sessoms No. 4, Kaitlyn Trotter No. 5 and Tyreccka Hawks No. 6.
Bruck and Williams will play at the No. 1 doubles with No. 2 pair consisting of Lee and Trotter. The Np. 3 doubles will alternate between senior Kierra Cofield/freshman Maura Zurfluh and freshmen Rebecca Gray/Cheyenne Banks.
