FRANKLIN—Franklin City Councilman Greg McLemore has paid off his delinquent property tax bill.
McLemore, who as of June 29 owed the city $1,850 for 2006 to 2009, was among owners of 500 properties delinquent on tax payments. Amounts range from less than $2 to more than $17,000.
McLemore said Friday he paid off the bill in December.
City Treasurer Dinah Babb would not confirm that McLemore had paid his bill.
“I can’t give you specifics on any taxpayer,” Babb said. “I just prefer not to. I owe that to the citizens.”
The names of delinquent taxpayers are listed on the city website. A look at the list on Friday did not show McLemore’s name.
If the name is not there, the taxes are paid, Babb said.
In other matters, McLemore is scheduled for a 9 a.m. Monday, April 18, hearing in Franklin General District Court on a misdemeanor charge of destruction of property from an alleged incident on Jan. 12.
According to court documents, McLemore was charged after complainant Barbara Rands alleged he destroyed property belonging to her valued at less than $1,000.
McLemore said he broke a mirror.
If convicted, he could face up to 12 months in jail and a fine of up to $2,500.
McLemore, who ran for mayor in 2008, was elected in May to the Ward 3 seat on the City Council.
