Southampton County Board of Supervisors ranks 69th in annual salaries

COURTLAND—The Southampton County Board of Supervisors ranks 69th out of 95 Virginia counties when it comes to their annual salaries.
The board this year could consider salary changes since 2011 is an election year. During Monday’s meeting, supervisors made no decision to do so. Should they revisit the issue, they would need to agree to a change by July 1.
Supervisors are paid $5,500 annually. The average salary for the elected position in Virginia is $10,501 annually.
In Isle of Wight County, supervisors are paid $11,744 a year, Greensville $10,217, Sussex $7,200 and Surry $5,000.
The highest-paid supervisors are in Fairfax and Arlington counties, at $75,000 and $49,000, respectively. In Pittsylvania County they are paid nothing, while the second lowest-paid are in Highland County at $1,800 a year.
