Hewitt Bowman

Franklin – Donald Craig Bowman, 81, better known as “D. C.” or “Hewitt” died March 3, 2011 at Southerland Place in Midlothian. He was born in Blackstone, the youngest of six children of Obe Hill Bowman and Margaret Wilkerson Bowman. He was predeceased by his siblings and his wife of 57 years, Gladys Walker Bowman, who was his childhood sweetheart.

Hewitt was employed by Union Camp Corporation as an accountant, but found his true passion in retirement, selling real estate. He co-owned Venture Properties, Inc>, with Jean McNeely for a number of years, later buying out her interest. Eventually, he sold this business to Coldwell Banker. His real estate career spanned more tham twenty years. His joy was in teaching and he taught many new agents.He loved “putting the deal together”, and as he called it, “helping families”.

Hewitt was a longtime member of High Street United Methodist Church, the Lions Club and numerous real estate organizations. He was appointed to the Advisory Board of Citizen’s National Bank in Windsor, Virginia in February, 2004 , after it was established in 2003. Three years later, he was appointed as full board member for that institution.

Left to cherish his memory are two daughters, Susan Bowman Donnell and her husband, Michael, of Richmond, and Nancy Craig Colwell and her husband, Kevin, and two grandchildren, Shawn Craig Auchstetter and Jennifer Susan Auchstetter, all of Torrance, CA.

A private graveside service will be conducted at 4:30 pm Sunday, March 6, 2011 at Poplar Spring Cemetery with the Rev. Susan Reaves officiating. The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 pm Sunday at Wright Funeral Home, Franklin, and suggest that memorials be made to High Street United Methodist Church, P O Box 218, Franklin, Va. 23851or the Alzheimer’s Association, 4600 Cox Road, Ste 130, Glen Allen, VA. 23060. www.wrightfuneralhome.org
