Helen B. Burgess

Capron – Helen Beatrice Burgess, 91, passed away February 24, 2011 at Southampton Memorial Hospital. She was born in Southampton County, a daughter of the late Gholie and Lizzie Newsome Burgess, and was predeceased by two brothers, James Wilton “Bill” Burgess and Lloyd Macon “Happy” Burgess. Helen was a 1937 graduate of Capron High School and attended the Fannie Webb School of Business in Franklin. She was a former employee of Camp Manufacturing and was retired from the US Forest Service. Helen was a lifelong member of Vincent’s Grove United Methodist Church and a former member of the Business and Professional Women’s Club, where she was a former president, and also held a state office in this club.

Left to cherish her memory are four sisters, Sally Frances Burgess Francis of Hampton, Swann Bradshaw Broocke of Courtland, Ann B. Davis (Wayne) of Midlothian, and Carolyn B. Arnsberger (Jerry) of Youngstown, OH; five brothers, G. McCoy Burgess (Dorothy) of Sedley, Raymond N. Burgess (Beth) of Nashville, TN, W. Emerson Burgess (Shirley) of Capron, Earl W. Burgess (Cecelia) of Sedley, and Wayne T. Burgess (Barbara) of Courtland; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be conducted at 2:30 pm Sunday, February 27, 2011 in the chapel of Wright Funeral Home, Franklin with the Rev. Steven Vornov officiating. The interment will follow in the Capron Cemetery.
