COURTLAND—A photo of this Southampton County Sheriff’s Office cruiser with an expired inspection sticker was taken when it was parked at Southampton High School on Saturday.

Expired inspection sticker.

The photographer, who wishes to remain anonymous, questioned how deputies can enforce traffic laws when their car has a state inspection that expired three months ago. State law does not exempt police vehicles from annual inspections.

Sgt. Wanda Covington with the Sheriff’s Office indicated that each officer is responsible for the regular maintenance and inspection of his work vehicle.

“This matter was brought to the attention of a supervisor with the Sheriff’s Office on Saturday,” Covington said.

It was addressed Tuesday.
