Virginia Gov. Robert F. McDonnell has been announced as this year’s keynote speaker at the 63rd Shad Planking.

The event is sponsored annually by the Wakefield Ruritan Club, and will take place 2-6:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 20, rain or shine, at the Wakefield Sportsmen’s Club, 12205 Brittles Mill Rd. The formal program starts at 4 p.m., and the meal served when prepared.

In addition to the renowned planked shad cooked over an open fire, The Virginia Diner will provide corn muffins and cole slaw. Shad roe, fish filets, sweet pickles, iced tea and other beverages are included.
