DURHAM, N.C.—Willie Helen Lamb Winston Ball, 90, entered into eternal rest on Friday, February 11, at Rex Hospital in Raleigh.

Born in Capron, Virginia, she was the daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin Lamb and Dorothy Rena Whitehead Lamb.

Helen moved to Durham in 1938. She married Raymond L. Winston, who died in 1970. Later, she married Robert L. Ball, who died in 1996.

Helen was retired from the Seeman Printery/Fisher Harrison Corporation.

She was a member of Robbins Road Christian Church, where she was a deacon and member of the Ladies Bible Class.

She was a member of the XYZ and the G.G.’s Senior Club. She was a volunteer for several years for Meals on Wheels.

Helen will be remembered as a loving mother who loved deeply and was well loved. She was devoted to her children, grandchildren, and her nieces and nephews.

She loved sewing and knitting. Helen enjoyed hosting Thursday night family dinners and holiday meals at home. She will be greatly missed, but she will be forever in our memories.

She was preceded in death by her sisters, Annie Lamb McCann of Crewe, Dolly Lamb Byrd of Suffolk, Daisy Lamb Parker of Suffolk, Lillian Lamb Parker of Franklin, Ruby Lamb Jordan of Courtland, Mae Lamb of Capron and her brothers, George Lamb of Capron and John Lamb of Durham, N.C.

Surviving are two sons, Walter Leo Winston and wife Lynda and Samuel Carter Winston and wife Judith, all of Durham; two step daughters, Karen Yandle and husband Steve and Joyce McLamb and husband David, all of Durham; three grandchildren, Tracey Winston Pleasants and husband, Kenny, Susan Winston Grant and Bradford Harvey Winston and wife, Jenny; one great-grandson, Nicholas Hart Pleasants; six step-grandchildren; and several step-great-grandchildren.

Funeral serves were held Monday, Feb. 14, in the Chapel of Hall-Wynne Funeral Service in Durham with the Reverend Roland Jones presiding. Burial was in Woodlawn Memorial Park.
