FRANKLIN—Western Tidewater can expect an accumulation of 1 to 2 inches of snow tonight, according to the National Weather Service in Wakefield.
Areas to the south, like Edenton, N.C., and Elizabeth City, N.C., can expect more, NWS Meteorologist Chris Wamsley said this morning from his office in Wakefield.
“The further south you go, the more chances for accumulation of snow,” Wamsley said. “The actual low is going to be off the South Carolina coast, so the north of that will get the heavier snow bands. We will be on the northern fringe of that system.”
Snowfall should begin after midnight with overnight temperatures in the upper 20s. By sunrise, the precipitation is expected to let up.
“By tomorrow afternoon, we’re looking at the upper 30s to near 40,” Wamsley said. “After the morning commute, most of the roadways should be completely melted.”
As of this morning, none of the schools in Western Tidewater had cancelled for Thursday.
