COURTLAND—Preliminary hearings for four of the six suspects arrested for the murder of Darrin Lee will take place Tuesday, Feb. 8, in General District Court in Courtland.

The 28-year-old Lee was fatally shot in the head outside his home in Southampton Meadows Park on Oct. 7.

Southampton County Sheriff’s Office charged Ernest W. Jones, 22, of Portsmouth; Rasheed Brown and Shahon Cumbo, both 21, of Franklin; and Darrin L. Robinson, 20, Bruce L. Boone, 18, and Dayquan Eley, 18, all of Suffolk. All were charged with first-degree murder.

Cumbo, Robinson, Boone and Eley will have their hearings at 1 p.m. Tuesday to determine if there is enough evidence to forward their cases to Southampton County Circuit Court.

Preliminary hearings for Jones and Brown will take place Tuesday, Feb. 22.

Although Lee died from a single gunshot wound, anyone involved, no matter to what degree, can be charged with his death. Police have not said who they believe fired the fatal shot.

Police believe robbery was the motive.
