COURTLAND—Southampton County has received nearly 30 applications for its vacant assistant administrator’s position, which pays a salary in the mid-$60,000.
“I glanced over some,” said Administrator Mike Johnson. “We’ve got a number of well qualified applicants so we’re certainly pleased with the pool.”
The position has been vacant since former assistant administrator Jay Randolph resigned at the end of September. Randolph was paid $66,447 annually. He is now the administrator for Lunenburg County.
Southampton County officials advertised the job on its website and with Virginia Association of Counties and Virginia Municipal League. The review process began last week.
“We’ve really just begun to screen, and I’ve got to get with the elected officials to develop the shortlist,” Johnson said.
Board of Supervisor Chairman Dallas Jones and Supervisor Anita Felts will assist in the process.
For economic reasons, Johnson had suggested not hiring a replacement for Randolph. The Board of Supervisors wished to fill the position.
