Murder-for-hire suspect headed to court

FRANKLIN—The case against a Virginia Beach man accused of being involved in an alleged murder-for-hire plot in Franklin is headed to court.

A judge determined Monday there was enough evidence against Luis Manuel Nunez, 28, for the case to go to the grand jury in Southampton County Circuit Court.

Hearings for alleged co-conspirators Desiree Elizabeth Brady, 28, and David Olonzo-Marcus Powell, 23, both of Virginia Beach, were delayed until 10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 31.

The suspects allegedly broke into an apartment in the 300 block of North College Drive on Nov. 3. Once inside, they threatened to kill two women, holding them against their after the women returned home in the early morning hours. One victim was able to notify police in the early afternoon of Nov. 3.

Police have said the case involves gangs, narcotics trafficking and interstate firearms smuggling.
