Verizon Wireless customers in Western Tidewater were without service Monday for more than four hours. It was restored shortly before 4 p.m.

“Crews are aware of the information and working on it,” Verizon spokeswoman Melanie Ortel said during the outage. “We will let you know more when we do.”

The cellular phone service went down at 12:30 p.m.
