Yvonne Skipper Dampier
NAGS HEAD, NC: Vonnie Skipper Dampier joined her Loving Savior on Wednesday, January 19th. She passed peacefully in the presence of her devoted daughters and in the care of the loving staff of Colony Ridge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Nags Head, NC (formerly Britthaven of the Outer Banks).
She was born on May 7, 1924, in Russellville, South Carolina, the only child of Harry Leon and Edna DuBose Skipper. Vonnie retired after 28 years of service from the Technical Department of Union Camp Corporation in Franklin, Virginia. After retirement, she and her husband Bob “Red” Dampier moved to the Outer Banks. He was a contractor and founder of the Nags Head AA group. Vonnie was a charter member of Still Waters Baptist Church founded in March 1999, in Nags Head.
She has joined her husband, Jack, and their first daughter, Judi Jeffers Siragusa, and her husband Bob.
To cherish her memory are five daughters: Jackie Blythe and husband Ed of Courtland, Va., Janice Foley and husband Charles of Warrenton, Va., Pat Stoffel and husband Mike of Kill Devil Hills, NC, Arlene Pittman of Sedley, VA., and Darlene Pope and husband John of Courtland, VA; stepdaughter Billy George and husband Eddie of Roanoke Rapids, NC and stepson Bobby Dampier of Carolina Beach, NC.; 17grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and her dearest friend and sister in Christ, Inez Walker.
Britthaven of the Outer Banks became Vonnie’s home in July of 2007. The administrator, Arlene Blythe Palmer (formerly of Franklin), her wonderful and loving, staff, and many friends became her extended family. Everyone will miss her beautiful smile.
Visitation will be 1:00 on Friday, January 21 at Still Waters Baptist Church, US 158 and Driftwood St., at MP 10 in Nags Head. Her service will begin at 2:00 followed by a reception. Honoring his sister in Christ will be her dear friend, Pastor Tony Facenda. Vonnie will be laid to rest at Poplar Spring Cemetery in Franklin following a graveside service on Saturday, January 22 at 2:00.
