FRANKLIN—Southampton High School wrestlers beat Franklin Wednesday 38-33.

The match on the Broncos’ home mats was held before the student body.

The 215-pound weight class started the competition. Southampton’s Travoris Evans defeated Anthony Pierce in three rounds 11-7. The victory gave Southampton an early 3-0 lead.

Southampton Senior Mitchell Gary pinned the Bronco Nathan Jones, while senior teammate Jarvis Lucas was pinned by Bronco Emmanuel Ricks in the 189-pound weight class. Ricks’ pin concluded regulation.

Senior Cody Durham’s 16-0 victory over Franklin’s Dontrell Rawls, pushed the Indians to a 32-21 lead.

Franklin’s Tabbitha Bruicks pinned Lady Indian Kara Roberts.

Bronco Xzavier Freeman defeated Sequan Fenner in the 119-pound weight class.

“I think we did right well,” said Franklin Wrestling Coach Daniel K. “Bull” Johnson. “We won more than we lost; we just gave up six forfeits, and losing 38-33 is pretty good.”
