FRANKLIN—The Virginia Peanut Growers Association is seeking producers who are interested in serving on the National Peanut Board.

The association will hold a nominations election to select a member and alternate to the board during its annual meeting from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Monday, Feb. 14, at the Airfield 4-H Center in Wakefield.

Jeffrey Pope of Drewryville is the current board member and Clarke Fox of Capron serves as the alternate. Their terms expire Dec. 31.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture requires two nominees from each state for each member and alternate. The National Peanut Board will submit Virginia’s slate of nominees to the U.S. secretary of agriculture, who makes the appointments.

The National Peanut Board represents all United States peanut farmers and their families. Through research and marketing initiatives, the board is finding new ways to enhance production and increase consumer demand by promoting American-grown peanuts.
