CONWAY, N.C.-Janice Meryl Burgess Britton, 71, died Friday, January 7, at Pitt County Memorial Hospital in Greenville after a brief illness. A native of Northampton County, she was a homemaker and was a wonderful wife, loving mother and grandmother. All of the grandchildren called her “Ma”. At times she could be a little feisty but she never met a stranger and, especially, loved to go shopping with her daughter, Hope and a good friend, Jean. Her nickname was “Squirrel” having been derived from a poem her son, Stan, wrote in 2nd grade needing a word to rhyme with his mothers’ given name of Meryl!
Survivors include her husband, Cecil Britton of their home near Conway; two daughters, Alesia Williams and husband, Ruben of Franklin, VA and Pamela Hope Hill and husband, Keith, of Murfreesboro; one son, Stan Britton of Conway; and four grandchildren, Billy Britton, Nate Williams, Zachary Hill, and Isabella Grace Hill.
The family will receive friends Saturday from 7 to 8:30 P.M. at Bridgers Funeral Home, Inc. in Conway and a Graveside Service will be held Sunday at 2:30 P.M. in the Town of Conway Cemetery with Rev. Willie McLawhorn presiding.
