Edward G. Davis

FRANKLIN–Edward G. Davis, Col. USAF, Ret., 97, a resident of the Village at Woods Edge, passed away January 6, 2011 at Southampton Memorial Hospital. He was born in Hampton, the son of the late Archer G. and Margaret D. Davis, and was predeceased by his wife, Dorothy Allen Davis, a grandson, Stephen A. Wrenn and two sisters, Marie Dietelhauser and Elsie Lee Spangler. Col. Davis was a 1936 graduate of Virginia Polytechnic Institute (VPI) and was a faithful Hokie fan. He retired from the U. S. Air Force after 25 years of service. During his military career, he directed the R. O. T. C. program at the University of Kentucky and served as a member of Eisenhower’s staff during World War II. He later performed his duties with the Joint Chiefs of Staff at the Pentagon in Washington, D.C., and as an instructor at the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk. Following his retirement, he worked as a real estate agent for Harrison and Lear Realtors. He was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Hampton for over 50 years.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Roberta D. Wrenn (Charles) of Franklin; his son, Donald E. Davis (Eileen) of Palm Harbor, FL; three grandchildren, Meredith A. Wrenn (Mike) of Franklin, Brian E. Davis and Jennifer E. Davis, both of Dallas, TX; and two great-grandchildren, Emily and Morgan Wrenn. Col. Davis’s family expresses their gratitude for his faithful, dedicated caregivers; Vickey Beale, Juanita Barham, Ann Ellison, Wanda Story, and Doris Wiggins, as well as the staff at the Village at Woods Edge.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 pm Monday, January 10, 2011, at Wright Funeral Home with the Rev. Sharon James officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be at 2 pm Tuesday, January 11, at Mattaponi Baptist Church Cemetery, 13468 The Trail, King and Queen Courthouse, 23085.
