COURTLAND—Angela Corbin has opened Go Team Sports, a sports memorabilia store at 28252 Southampton Parkway next door to Buck’s and Doe’s Hair Salon in Courtland.

Corbin said she was inspired by her father, who runs a similar business in Virginia Beach. Corbin also took cues from her father for finding the right distributors.

“I told my dad if I can do half of the business that you do, then I will be all right,” she said.

Open since Nov. 16, the store has done OK, considering Corbin has not advertised.

“Most our patrons have been passersby off of the highway and locals that have used word-of-mouth,” she said. “I like for people to talk; it’s when people are not talking that I worry.“

“A lot of stuff that we have sold has been stocking stuffers,” she continued. “We have actually sold quite a lot; it’s just steady with restocking.”

Corbin says NFL apparel is easy to find, but she is also focusing on the not-so-popular teams. She wants to create a niche by offering memorabilia for the the Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers — teams you can’t find just anywhere in the area.

Corbin and her husband also own a secondhand store on Second Avenue in downtown Franklin behind Hardees.

Go Team Sports is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and can be reached at 653-9609.
