COURTLAND—A Capron woman injured in a Thursday crash on Route 58 near the Food Lion was in fair condition Friday at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

Dorothy Ellsworth, who was trapped in the sport utility vehicle she was driving, was initially taken to Southampton Memorial Hospital and transferred to Norfolk.

Virginia State Police Trooper E.N. Stallard was told by trucker Glenn Reed of Brodax, who was driving eastbound on Route 58 at about 11:15 a.m., that Ellsworth’s Toyota Rav4 slid through the red light at Argipark Drive into the path of his tractor-trailer.

When Stallard spoke with Ellsworth at SMH, she said she had a green light.

“At this time, she said she started to proceed through the intersection on a green light — a statement that totally contradicted each other,” Stallard said. “Through the conflicting statements and really no witnesses at this time, there’s no evidence to determine (what happened).”

There are no cameras at the intersection.

If anyone witnessed the crash, call state police in Chesapeake at 800-424-6800.
