FRANKLIN— Councilman Don Blythe may have received answers on Police Chief Phil Hardison’s absence from work in late November during Monday’s council meeting, but he said he couldn’t discuss what took place in closed session.

“Right now, I can’t comment,” Blythe said Tuesday.

On Monday, the council met in closed session to discuss a number of issues, including “the performance and discipline of an employee.”

Blythe, who missed the Nov. 22 council meeting because he was hospitalized, told The Tidewater News earlier this month he planned to ask for a closed session to discuss the matter with his colleagues.

City officials have been tight-lipped about Hardison’s absence in late November, calling it a personnel matter.
