Navy training small price to pay for protection

To the Editor:

How soon we forget! In September we observed 9/11 (also known as Patriots Day) and on Tuesday we observed Pearl Harbor Day.

Two days that the United States was attacked and many innocent people died. I guess it will take another attack on United States soil before people in our country will really remember the past.

The Navy is proposing using the Franklin airport for training, and I hope it becomes a reality. If the training will help protect the Unites States from further attacks then so be it. If Franklin doesn’t receive a dime from the Navy, then that shouldn’t really matter.

What price can you put on freedom? It’s definitely not free. Look at all the men and women who have died to preserve our freedoms. It would be a shame to have them to have died in vain because of inconveniences in our daily life.

In many countries you couldn’t voice your opinion for fear of being imprisoned or even executed.

Whatever it takes to help prevent a potential attack on our country should be done. Did the citizens complain during World War II of the Navy using the Franklin airport? Many may argue that was during a war, but what are we in right now? Terrorists are at war with us.

It is better to be proactive rather than reactive. Will it take another attack and the loss of lives before we are all for the training? We have been attacked before and I am sure there will be more attempts.

I hope that everyone counted their blessings this past Thanksgiving that we live in a free country and have the armed forces that help us maintain those freedoms. God Bless America!
