COURTLAND—Police have charged a fifth person in connection with the murder of a 28-year-old Southampton County man.

Rasheed Brown, 21, of the 200 block of Holly Street in Franklin, is charged with first-degree murder in connection with the fatal shooting of Darrin Lee outside his home at the Southampton Meadows Mobile Home Park on Oct. 7.

Several members of Lee’s family were home when he was killed.

Sgt. Wanda Covington, a spokeswoman for the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, said another suspect in the murder identified Brown as one of the participants.

At the time he was charged in the murder, Brown was already incarcerated in Western Tidewater Regional Jail on charges from another locality.

“So we knew where he was and it was just a matter of getting the warrant,” Covington said.

Four other men have been charged with first-degree murder in connection with Lee’s death: 21-year-old Shahon Cumbo of Franklin and three Suffolk men, Darrin L. Robinson, 20; Bruce L. Boone, 18; and Dayquan Eley, 18.

Police said the motive for the murder appears to have been robbery.
