Choose your favorite downtown holiday storefront

To the Editor:

Hope this letter finds you and your readers well, blessed and joyous in advance of the holiday season.

In our downtown Franklin district, we are well in the swing of the annual Retail Alliance Holiday Window Works competition. This year’s theme is Santa’s Workshop, and already we have noticed an increase in foot traffic to view the displays.

There are two aspects of the competition we would like to make the public aware of.

First is the obvious aesthetic window display competition. How exciting it has been for these downtown vendors to construct these storefronts. It is a fun homage to the past, when it was a holiday event to gather the family and check out local business displays to get in the spirit of the holidays.

The second aspect of the competition is less obvious, but much farther reaching. There is a People’s Choice Award that is given to the business that raises the most money for the Children’s Hospital for the King’s Daughters. There are donation cans in each of the participating business locations. All of the proceeds donated are directly given to CHKD.

You can also mail in your donation by check made payable to CHKD to your favorite business, should you visit outside of business hours.

I encourage everyone to participate in this holiday event. There has been considerable effort on the part of these businesses to display an exciting window.

Additionally, there is a very worthy cause set to benefit.

With warmest holiday wishes.
