FRANKLIN-Edward Lawrence Vasser, Sr., 74,died November 27, 2010. Born in Southampton County, VA, he was a son of the late William “Willie” Dudley and Edith Hedgepeth Vasser. He was an Army veteran and was retired from the Virginia Department of Corrections. A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he loved hunting, fishing and camping in the Blue Ridge Mountains. Mr. Vasser was a member of Colosse Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Shirley Munford Vasser; four sons, Edward Lawrence Vasser, Jr. (Julie) of Suffolk, Steven Vasser (Lori) of Ivor, Daniel Vasser ( Sheila) of Gatesville, NC, Douglas Vasser (Laura) of Sedley; a sister, Phyllis Council (Roy) of Zuni; four grandchildren, Kelsey Leigh, Danielle, Carla and Cassidy Vasser and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by three brothers, Wilbur, Totsie and William.

A graveside service with military honors will be held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, November 30, 2010 in Southampton Memorial Park with the Rev. Larry Cribb officiating. The family will receive friends Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wright Funeral Home and suggests memorials be made to the Diabetes Association or the American Cancer Society. www.wrightfuneralhome.org.
