Resident disappointed with IOW supervisors

To the Editor:

I read with interest and disappointment the article “IOW opposes Navy training,” (Nov. 19).

Statement: “Residents overwhelmingly oppose the plan.” Obviously they talked to or heard from a select few and not the general residents. I personally welcome the Navy in their endeavor.

I live in the flight pattern of the airport and was out when they made their first flyover. My lawnmower makes more noise than they did.

Safety has been mention before, and people should realize they have a better chance of being rear-ended on Route 258 than one of those planes crashing.

Our pilots need the type of training that this airport can provide. Same story: “Not in my backyard.”

U.S. Navy — bring it on. I will wave my flag when you go overhead.

I would like to see you practicing rather than a plane with a red star on the side.

Can they start next month? I love to watch.

I was amazed how the Isle of Wight Board of Supervisors voted against this with so few on that side. When most of the county was against other things, they voted in favor of them. Makes you wonder, doesn’t it?
