To the Editor:

What a beautiful Saturday, Nov.13, for a parade in downtown Smithfield.

The people turned out and lined the streets to help celebrate the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II. Marching bands from the U.S. Navy, Smithfield High School, Windsor High School and Smithfield Middle School set the pace.

Our veterans from all wars were honored.

The Isle of Wight Citizens Association thanks everyone that made this parade possible. Herb DeGroft and Albert Burckard were the organizers, and they presented a parade to remember.

Members of the IWCA were on hand to help make everything go smoothly. Fifteen years ago, the Isle of Wight Citizens Association sponsored a Veterans Day parade in Smithfield to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the end of World War II.

We thank everyone that attended to honor our veterans. We must honor our veterans every day for their sacrifice to keep our country free.
