Cheer on Broncos in football playoffs

To the Editor:

This Saturday, Nov. 27, at 1 p.m., our Franklin High School Broncos will play host to Sussex Central High School for the right to advance to Salem, Va., to play for a state championship.

This past year, the City of Franklin and Southampton and Isle of Wight counties, along with other local areas, have suffered with the loss of our paper mill. There have not been too many good things to enjoy, and believe me, I know first hand.

Well, here is something good happening.

I go to Franklin High School’s football games, and the attendance is really poor. I challenge you, the people of this community, to come out this coming Saturday and support this team and its coaches.

All of my old Bronco teammates who are in the area, I challenge you to be present Saturday. To my football players of the past, who were teammates to these guys still on the field, I ask you to come and support your teammates. It doesn’t matter what school you attend now. At one time, you were teammates, and that gives you a bond for life. I read about how disappointed people are because our Christmas parade has been dropped. Well, these young men on the gridiron are a feel-good story, and if you have any sense of civic pride, I suggest you be present for kickoff this Saturday at Armory Field.

Remember this — the opening kickoff sets the tone of the game. Don’t be late.
