Association awarded for food drive efforts

BLACKSTONE—Franklin/Southampton Retired Teachers’ Association was recognized during the Fall Annual Virginia Retired Teachers’ Association Meeting for participating in the AARP/Ruritan Community Food Drive on Sept. 11.

For its efforts, the local association received the AARP Community Food Drive Award for District “D” Retired Teachers’ Association. The local association will receive $150 for its scholarship fund.

The local unit contributed more than 20 bags of non-perishable items to the food bank.

The association also received With our Youth and Community Service awards.

During the fall meeting on Oct. 4 and 5 in Blackstone, local association members displayed a scrapbook of activities from 2009-2010 and the unit banner, and submitted other reports on time.
