To the Editor:

On Oct. 1, 2010, I was severely injured in a fall near Walters in Isle of Wight County.

Members of the Isle of Wight County Volunteer Rescue Squad and Carrsville Volunteer Fire Department along with the Isle of Wight Sheriff’s Department responded.

My injuries were severe and required that I be transported by Nightingale Air Ambulance to the trauma unit at Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

If not for the quick response to the accident scene and correct decisions made by the rescue personnel at the scene, it is very possible that I would have died.

Although because of the condition I was in, I do not remember the names of the individuals that assisted me, I do wish to thank all of them for their quick response and making the correct decisions that saved my life.

Isle of Wight County has volunteer organizations that all citizens depend on and should be very thankful for. The next time you see any volunteer, say thanks. It’s all the pay they get, and they truly do save lives.
