COURTLAND—A Courtland man died Sunday from injuries he suffered in a one-car crash on Friday night outside Courtland, Virginia State Police said.

Lester McCoy Artis, 61, of the 23000 block of White House Road was taken to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where he died.

Alcohol was a factor, Trooper C.K. Fleming said.

Artis was driving his 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse south on Route 35, 1/10 of a mile north of Indian Town Road at 10 p.m., Fleming said. The car left the road, and Artis overcorrected. His car left the road again, and he was thrown and pinned under the vehicle.

Artis was not wearing a seatbelt.
