Catherine B. Hatch

FRANKLIN—Mrs. Catherine Baker Hatch of Stonewall Street, Franklin, Va., passed Oct. 24, 2010, while a patient in Sentara Norfolk General Hospital.

On Dec. 18, 1937, she was born to Lee and Leona Pruden Baker in Nansemond County, Va.

For 43 years, Catherine was a member of Mount Olive Holiness Church, where she served as Superintendent of the Sunday School and President of the Hospitality Ministry. Formerly, she was President of the Usher Board.

Catherine enjoyed attending the Martin Luther King Center with the Senior Citizens sponsored by the Senior Services of Southeastern Virginia.

Catherine was preceded in death by her parents; husband Charles E. Hatch Sr.; sons, Gary Lee Baker and Douglas E. Baker; one sister, Ruth B. Murphy; and brothers James L. Baker, Edward Baker and Nathaniel Baker.

She is survived by five daughters, Gloria J. Baker, Maggie B. Grant, Tammy Baker, Loretha B. Ricks (Pastor Stanley), all of Franklin, Va., and Sandra B. Bross of Rchmond, Va.; three sons, James T. Baker, Marvin A. Baker and Antwan D. Hatch (Stephanie), all of Franklin, Va.; her step-children, Shirley Purdie, Eva Jeter, Charles Hatch Jr., Patricia Powell, William Hatch, Robert Hatch, Elaine Miles, Jerome Hatch and Linda Williams; three sisters, Annie B. Wiggins, Dorothy B. Holden and Geraldine B. Flood; 36 grandchildren; 42 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and nieces, nephews, cousins and many caring friends.

A home-going celebration will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, at Mount Olive Holiness Church, 34071 Smiths Ferry Road, Franklin, Va., with the pastor, Bishop Samuel A. Hall, delivering the eulogy.

The interment will be in Southview Cemetery.

On the day of service, her remains will be placed in the church by 11 a.m.
