Second-place Lady Indians to take on first-place Powhatan Tuesday

COURTLAND—The Southampton High School volleyball team, which is in second place in the Southside District, will travel to Powhatan High School Tuesday, Oct. 19.

Powhatan is in first place in the district and defeated the Lady Indians earlier in the season.

Southampton is 16-2 overall and 8-1 in the league. Powhatan is 13-0 overall and 9-0 in the district.

The junior varsity game starts at 6 p.m. and is followed by varsity match-up.

The Southampton High School varsity girls had league victories over Bluestone and Brunswick high schools this week.

At Bluestone Tuesday, the Lady Indians won in straight sets with scores of 25-11, 25-14 and 25-19.

Kendra Edwards led the team with 23 assists, 3 aces, 3 digs and 1 kill. Marisa Cabell finished with 4 kills, 3 digs and 1 save.

Teammate Megan Revelle finished with 10 kills, 5 digs, 3 saves, 2 aces and 1 block. Regina Artis made 16 kills, 6 digs and 1 block. Candace Earls finished with 5 digs, 4 kills, 3 aces and 1 save.

Janie Young made 9 digs, 5 kills and 2 aces. Leah Burgess finished with 1 kill.

On Thursday, the Lady Indians won in straight sets of 25-3, 25-12 and 25-11 against visiting Brunswick.

Edwards led with 19 assists, 2 aces, 2 kills and 1 block. Cabell finished with 1 ace and 1 kill.

Revelle made 7 kills, 1 ace, 1 block and 1 save. Artis finished with 9 kills, 2 aces and 1 block.

Earls made 7 aces, 2 assists and 1 kill. Burgess finished with 3 aces.

Jessica Story finished with 1 kill. Meredith Coggsdale finished with 1 kill. Kaylee Edwards finished with 2 kills.

The JV team is 12-1 overall and 8-1 in the Southside District following district wins over Bluestone and Brunswick.

The JV Lady Indians won in straight sets 25-14 and 25-10 against Brunswick.

Grayson Drake led with 4 assists and 3 kills. Samantha Billups finished with 4 assists and 2 kills.

Madison Cabell finished with 5 aces and 1 kill. Lindsey Harrup finished with 2 kills.

Madeleine Khale finished with 4 kills and 1 ace. Katie Mein made 2 aces.

Bethany Vann finished with 2 aces and 1 dig. Mikayla Clarke made 2 kills and 1 ace.
