Virginia E. Griffin

Boykins – Virginia Edwards Griffin, 86, widow of Frank Robert Griffin, Sr. died October 11, 2010 at Southampton Memorial Hospital. She was reared on a Southampton County farm in Drewryville and lived in Boykins for more than sixty years. Mrs. Griffin was a daughter of the late Claud Edwards and Eunice Grizzard Edwards Allen and was predeceased by three sisters, Ruth Dunlow, Adlee Dunlow, and Lillian Cook, and a brother, Stuart Edwards. She was a volunteer aerial spotter during WWII and was a former employee of Hancock Peanut Company, Narricott, and Southampton Peanut Company. She was a lifelong member of Boykins United Methodist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Frank R. Griffin, Jr. (Susan) of Myrtle Beach, SC and Ronny Griffin (Annie) of Franklin; two sisters, Lois Gaskins of Dolphin, VA and Shirley Powell of Emporia; four brothers, James Edwards of Emporia, Gilbert Edwards of Richmond, Wallace Edwards of Roanoke Rapids, and Lloyd Naff Edwards of Chapel Hill, NC; four grandchildren, Melissa Hatfield of Franklin, Kate Griffin of Norfolk, Robbie Griffin of Myrtle Beach, SC, and Bob Carr of Franklin; and two great-grandchildren, Kara Tru Hatfield and Gage Hatfield.

A memorial service will be conducted at 11 am Saturday, October 16, 2010 at Boykins United Methodist Church with Rev. Michael Baugham officiating. The family will receive friends from 7 to 8:30 pm Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Boykins United Methodist Church, 32167 Main Street, Boykins, VA. 23827.
