Hill, Mitchell lead Broncos to win

KING AND QUEEN COURT HOUSE—Martinez Hill and Melquan Mitchell scored two touchdowns apiece during Franklin High School’s 54-6 win over King and Queen Central High School on Friday night.

The Broncos are 6-0 and will play their first Tri Rivers District League game in Surry at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15.

Franklin rushed for 334 yards on 22 carries, which was their total offense for the night. King and Queen players carried the ball 46 times for 110 yards.

Leading rushers were Mitchell with 86 yards, Hill with 83 and Trevis Dunn with 82. Kicker Antone Bland was 6 for 8 on extra points.

“We played a very, very good disciplined game tonight,” said Coach Darren Parker. “We’re very proud of the way out kids played. God is great.”

Hill scored the first touchdown on a 57-yard run with 8:10 left in the first quarter.

Mitchell followed less than 5 minutes later with a 17-yard run for a score.

With 10:45 left in the second quarter, Dunn scored on a 6-yard run. Thirty-two seconds later, Hill crossed the goal line on a 15-yard run.

With 7:53 left in the half, Mitchell scored on a 29-yard run. Justin Grant returned a punt for 64 yards to give the Broncos 31-0 lead at the half.

In the third quarter, Delvontae Boone scored on a 32-yard run with 9:14 remaining.

In the final quarter, Bronco Travis Boone reached the end zone on a 24-yard run.

King and Queen player Troy Washington scored on a 5-yard run with 1:30 left in the game. The 2-point conversion failed.
