Teen suspected in armed robbery

FRANKLIN—A 16-year-old Franklin boy was arrested after he allegedly robbed a man at gunpoint Friday night.

The teen is charged with armed robbery, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony and carrying a concealed weapon, according to a Franklin police news release.

At about 11:30 p.m. Franklin police responded to Dorchester Square Apartments, where a 41-year-old Southampton County man told officers a suspect brandished a silver handgun and robbed him as he left one of the apartment buildings.

The robber fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of money. An investigation led police to the teen, who lives in Dorchester Square Apartments. Police also recovered a .22-caliber pistol.

The teen was taken to the Tidewater Detention Home, where he remained in custody Tuesday.
