FRANKLIN—George Howard Spratley, 63, of Franklin, died Oct. 2, 2010, at Southampton Memorial Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Franklin. Burial will be in Southview Cemetery.

Spratley, affectionately known as “Sonny,” was the son of the late Henry and Victoria Spratley. He was born on June 28, 1947, in Isle of Wight County.

He attended Isle of Wight County Public Schools, where he graduated from Georgia Tyler High School in 1966.

He served in the U.S. Marine Corps and was honorably discharged.

He gained employment with the U.S. Post Office, where he worked until retirement.

Spratley’s passion was his love of baseball and bowling.

He was married to Maude Evelyn Butts, and to this union, two children were born. He leaves to celebrate his homegoing, two sons Reginald “Gonza” Spratley of Franklin and Rodland Warwick of Hampton; one daughter, Angela Spratley Stephenson of Courtland; one sister, Loretta Scott Lomax of Franklin; one brother, Charles Scott of Franklin; eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Carolyn Brown, Sonia Walden and Vicky Scott; two brothers-in-law, Albert Butts and Glenn Butts; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
